For our newer users unaware of past wiki traditions, Featured Article of the Week (or FAOTW for short) was, as the name suggests, a weekly event in which editors would submit page nominations, which would then be voted upon by the community. The selected page with the highest votes for that week would receive the honour of being FAOTW in the form of a page banner, and would be displayed for seven days on the Wiki's front page. FAOTW has been extinct for almost two and a half years now, primarily due, I suspect, to the dismal lack of activity.
However, now that things are beginning to pick up again, and activity and our community as a whole is in full swing, I think it seems appropriate to revamp FAOTW. It is a fun, inclusive weekly occurence that not only will boost activity in general, but will encourage editing of stories and fanon pages – which, I remind you, are the sole building blocks of our site.
Traditionally, an administrator has run FAOTW. However, should this suggestion come to light and none of the current administration would like to have that added responsibility, I would be more than willing to operate FAOTW (I had the privilege to do so during my own term as admin). As it stands, the FAOTW blog is under Al's control, but with his permission as well as the administration's it would be easy for it to be turned over to someone willing to run FAOTW. Granted – and I've never been one to lie about my future rate of activity – come September/October I may not be entirely active on the wiki, and thus I don't want to risk bringing FAOTW back only for it to die out again. If any other members of our community are interested in revamping this tradition, then perhaps we can discuss who would be able to run it.
We've done well for the past few months in resurging activity; now, let's build on that momentum by once more implementing an enjoyable, rewarding system from the wiki's golden age that, hopefully, will inspire our editors to begin writing stories and fanon once more.
Kind regards,
Jerry
P.S. Wasn't sure which forum to put this in – admins relocate this as needed.
